Jatayu Para

Jatayupara is unique shaped rock situated next to the MC Road in Chadayamangalam Village aural 30 km abroad from
Kollam district in Kerala. Chadayamangalam is as well called as Jadayu Mangalam. It is the one of the admirable village in Kollam amid between the Kottarakara and Kilimanoor. History

According to legend it is believed that this rock got this name from a personality Jatayu in the epic Ramayana. It is a huge bird which is the friend of Lord Rama. This bird scarified his life for saving Goddess Sita from the Devil sprit Ravana. And it is as well believed that the bird Jatayu fell down in this bedrock with acutely blood-soaked body. For this reason this rock got this name as Jatayu rock.

It is believed that this rock is formed by Rama when he pressed the rock to give water to Jatayu. And some said that it is formed if the Jatayu bird felt and the beak hit the rock and formed the pond.
