Natural History Museum

Natural History Museum is one of the most sought after museum which is visited by anthropologists
and biologists. This mesmerizing museum was originally built and set up in the year 1855 and is situated in the city of Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala. This beautiful museum is housed in a modern enormous double storied building. This museum is located very close to the very famous Napier Museum or the Government Art Museum. Located east of the Napier Museum is one of the most sought after tourist destination in Trivandrum.

History

In the year 1885 the fascinating Natural History Museum opened its doors for the visitors, though the building in which it is presently housed was constructed only in the year 1964. The building is a very well modern two storied building. The prime advantage to visit this museum is that on your single trip you can visit two museums as because the Natural History Museum is located adjacent to the very famous Government Art Museum or the Napier Museum. It would be very amazing and mesmerizing to know the fact that this elegant museum at first was started with the personal collection of General Cullen.

This museum is loaded with Stuffed Animals, Animals Skeletons and Birds from part of the display. Best Time to Visit/ Timings

The best time which is very ideal to visit this museum in Trivandrum is considered from the month of October to March. Tourist influx to this city of Trivandrum starts during this period of time owing to its temperatures as it remains very pleasing. The maximum temperature recorded during this period is 24°C to 25°C which is very ideal for roaming around. The Natural History Museum remains open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10:00 AM to 04:45 PM. However on Wednesdays, it opens only at 01:00 PM till 05:00PM. Monday, 26th January and 15th August the museum remains closed.

How to Reach

Thiruvananthapuram is very well affiliated by road network. The National Highway NH-47 runs from Salem to Kanyakumari, passes through the city. It connects important southern cities such as Coimbatore and Salem in north administration and Nagercoil in south direction. KSRTC operates daily bus service from Thiruvananthapuram to the other cities of the state.
There are five railway stations within the city which includes the Thiruvananthapuram central station. Thiruvananthapuram Pettah, Kochuveli, Veli stations and Thiruvananthapuram Nemom are other railway stations, thus reaching this museum from any of these railway stations are very easy and accessible. Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is the closest airport as to reach the museum form here by hiring a taxi or car only takes around 30 minutes.
