Bekal Fort is one of the largest forts in Kerala. Spreaded over the area of 40 acres in Kasargod, Bekal Fort has long history related to it and even today its glorious history and the majestic structure draws the attention of great number of tourists from far and wide. Bekal fort is more then 300 years old, though there is a contradiction regarding the actual date of its origin. The fort is well connected with long history since it was built by Sivappa Naik of the Ikkeri Dynasty. It is also believed that the fort was really built by Kolathiri Rajas and later it was captured by Sivappa Naik. Many rulers have captured the power of over this forts as after Sivappa Naik, in 1763 it was captured by Hyder Ali and later by Huzur of Canara and finally by the British Empire.

Today this historical fort is visited by tourists in great number. The entrance of the fort follows Zig Zag road and more probably it was built to defend from the sea invasion from the enemies.
